Chipped like everyone else's...

Submitted by weyerserv - 10/1/2017

Bought my Kitchenaid mixer in 2004, and the coated flat beater finally began chipping earlier this year. I replaced it with a new one from Kitchenaid, but after 3 months it is already chipping. Unacceptable and disappointed in the quality.

I only used this two or three times and the beater chipped. I bought this mixer for my bed and breakfast and couldn't serve coffee cake to guests with enamel shards in it. Very disappointing.

KN256CBT: So Far, So Good

Submitted by Suzanne Natafji - 7/15/2017

After immediately receiving this item for my Pro 600, I tested it on my Pro 600. It worked flawlessly inside my bowl, and I do not need any bowl adjustments to accommodate it. (Note: My KA Artisan 5 quart tilt-head stand mixer came with these coated items, so I didn't have to purchase them separately.) I bought this coated item because my Pro 600 came with its burnished counterpart that flakes off metallic bits, and this nylon coated version supposedly remedies this and also allows buyers to pop them in their dishwashers. In general, on KA internet forums and on most resellers' sites for this item, there are negative reviews on this more newly-manufactured coated item, while their older coated version has lasted for decades. This may be due to KA's now outsourcing of their items to countries like India, which make KA's current 'stainless steel' bowls, for example, that flake metal bits. (Note: stainless steel doesn't flake). With these current coated attachment items, Indian (or other) overseas outsourcing may also be causing common chipping problems, some of which occur during their first use, while others chip after 1 year. Any chipping at all is unacceptable. When I was researching these issues, I went back and forth about wanting to buy any product with chipping (or any other problem). This item is an integral attachment to all KA stand mixers, and as such, it must have outstanding quality - with no manufacturing issues. In the end, I attacked this as I would a card game: maybe I would have luck and win (no chipping); maybe I wouldn't have luck and lose (chipping). With these important items on sale and one reseller also with coupons for more reductions, my items may be OK. If they chip, they will be slightly better than the burnished, uncoated metal with flaking pieces that my Pro 600 came with. I trust that KA will correct its manufacturing issues, so today, I give it 4-5 stars on this item, hoping that this item has no problems.

Terrible chipping

Submitted by The baker - 6/3/2017

I got the kitchen aid for our wedding in 2000. my first beater lasted 16 years before I noticed chipping. I bought another beater and it wasn't 6 months and it was already chipping. I had noticed right away the coating was much thinner than on my first one. I don't know what to use now. I won't waste my money on another one and the reviews on the non coated ones are just as bad. Maybe I'll buy a Bosch.

Same problem everyone else has had

Submitted by Baked Blessings by Lisa - 5/22/2017

Purchased and started using this coated beater less than 3 months ago. This weekend I realized base of it had chipped and found the fragment in my cookie dough. So I lost the use of the beater and had to toss my product as I could not assure chips weren't in dough. Very frustrating with quality of product

I am on my third coated flat beater. Every one has chipped. I wanted to order the burnished one but that one has terrible reviews also. I would never buy another KitchenAid product. I bake for a local charity. The children already have compromised immune systems without having flakes of whatever in their baked goods. I had an old KitchenAid that I gave away - wish I could get it back!

Coated Flat Beater Chips

Submitted by ArcticIgloo - 2/18/2017

I've been using KitchenAid stand mixers since I was a kid. My mom's 40-yo KitchenAid stand mixer (used frequently for 40 years) has the original 40-yo coated flat beater that has never chipped! I had a KitchenAid coated flat beater with a stand mixer (purchased approx year 2000) that never chipped. I sold it and purchased the Professional KitchenAid stand mixer. Then, I ordered the coated flat beater from the KitchenAid website. After a while, it started chipping. I'm very disappointed with the reduced quality.

While the product works, the coating chips bad and just continues after each use. Pieces end up following into the mixing bowl.

Chipping Enamel

Submitted by Sheila - 12/19/2016

Was given the white Kitchen aid mixer 5qt i think, about 4 years ago. Use it for all kinds of thing and it has made my life easier. Didnt realize the enael had chipped off the beater until my husband said something. Now I dont want to use it. Is there another kind without the enamel? Such a shame for such an expensive item.

I love, love, love my kitchenaid mixer. I bought it over 10 years ago and it's still going strong. I see all the beautiful new kitchenaid mixers that have been brought to market since my purchase but mine is still going strong so I see no need to replace. And it still helps make my parker house rolls the star of the show at thanksgiving. Yes, the enamel on my blade is flaking off, too. But that only happened in last year. When I first saw it I thought it was touching the bottom, but, no it isn't. And it's getting worse. But all things give out with time. It's been 10 years after all! I'm going to get another blade and I think this is a great product. Nothing is perfect.

I have had a Kitchenaid mixer for more than 25 years. When my mixer went out last year my family bought me a new 6 qt Kitchenaid. After using it a few times the coating started chipping off the paddle. I am very upset about this because I use the paddle most. :(

Another coating failure

Submitted by AHunt - 11/27/2016

I have several KitchenAid mixers and the flat beater with the coating has begun to flake off. I now need to figure out how to buy a new one that will work with this mixer.

Do not buy coating comes off in your batter!

Submitted by SweetNY - 11/26/2016

I saved and saved to get a bigger KitchenAid mixer. This reolaced the one I hsd. I always wash all my mixer parts even bowl by hand in sink, never in the dishwasher! So imagine my surprise when making peanut butter cookies (no cheap) finding coating chips all in the dough. So upset I wanted this so badly. My old beater never chipped it was 20 years old!

Chipped enamel

Submitted by Carol - 11/23/2016

Received the mixer as a gift & washed all parts by hand. I absolutely LOVE my mixer...just the beater, not so much: the enamel is chipping and getting into my food. Yuck. And it's the one attachment I use the most!

Coating Chips

Submitted by Tiffani - 11/19/2016

I love my Mixer! I have had my mixer for about 10 years, but I have had to replace the beater blade several times due to the coating that chips off. I always hand wash the blade and it does not rub against the bottom of the bowl. I used it again last night and had to toss out my dough as another piece flakes off into the batter. On top of that now my mixer is making a terrible sound as iff it is wearing out. I fear it is time for a new mixer. I had hoped it would last longer than 10 years. I could see if i used it daily, but I use it only a fe times a month. Very disappointed and not wanting to replace yet another blade. After redoing the reviews of the burnished blade, I don't know if I even want to try that one.

Another fail - Nylon into the bowl.

Submitted by Wild Willie - 5/15/2016

Out of adjustment from the factory? Not sure but the nylon is off the bottom. The mixer works fine after a number of years but the blade does not get used due to the flaking of the white nylon covering.

Cheap! Enamel chips off

Very disappointed in this product! The enamel chipped off the beater, making it useless for food prep. The Kitchen Aid name is sorely compromised by this defective part. Would never recommend.

Coating chipped off after first use

Submitted by Emily - 1/9/2016

I just received my mixer for Christmas two weeks and just tested it out making cookie dough and notice the chips and cracking of the coating. I only noticed as I was hand washing the beater, so my dough was ruined. I was very excited to use my new gift and am very disappointed at the terrible quality, I expected more from KitchenAid.

The white paint started chipping off my beater in several places after just a few uses. I adjusted my beater as instructed before I ever used the mixer, so I know it's not from hitting the bottom of the bowl. The beater was replaced and the 2nd one I received did the same thing. My mixer isn't even a year old and I've been thru 2 beaters with both chipping off everywhere!

Adjust bowl if beater blade coating comes off

Submitted by Peewee - 10/26/2015

I called KitchenAid to order a new flat beater for my 6 quart Epicurean mixer. The rep asked me to adjust the height of my bowl so that the beater did not continue to hit the bottom of the bowl. The adjustment is easy. Call the KitchenAid reps at their 800 number and they will walk you through lowering the bowl. That will prevent the beater from hitting the bowl and making the coating get worn off.

Coating comes off in less than 6 months of use.. The coating

Submitted by Amodi - 2/16/2015

Terrible design on their part. They don't replace the part after one year.. and the coating on the beater starts peeling off in less than six months and goes into food. .. DON'T BUY THIS..

Submitted by Valerie29 - 1/19/2015

I love my mixer so much I upgraded from a smaller model to this one so I could make breads. However I am very disappointed in the nylon coated beater and dough hook, both repeatedly flake off the paint. I have to buy new ones repeatedly.
