This receiver is excellent. Especially for the money. Easy set-up with microphone. HDMI connectivity is flawless, If using HDMI especially using AutoMotion on your 120/240hz TV, the receiver's Auto-Audio Delay is surprisingly close. I opted for the custom setting of about 130ms audio delay, and it's spot-on. Much better than even the "Y" upper-level competitors. And, the menu is incredibly simple and usable. May not have every bell and whistle that you get from the $600-800 price range, but excellent for the ~$400 range.

This receiver has only 4 video inputs, regardless of their type. The documentation makes you believe that it has 4 HDMI + 2 component + 2 composite when in reality is just _4_ inputs total, regardless of type. Inputs with the same name are actually the _same_ input. For example, you cannot connect something on the BD HDMI input and something else on the BD component input because they will fight one another.
Selecting alternate names for the inputs just confuses everyone since the original input names are on the remote.
Surround sound is very lacking: I haven't been able to hear the rear speakers at all, regardless of content or configuration.
Auto-calibration fails to complete most of the times, even though the place is very, very quiet.
Speaker connections require banana jacks. Attempting to use regular stripped cable will lead to trouble during the auto-calibration.

I wanted a receiver that would run my home theater and two speakers on my outdoor patio. I also wanted a one that could manage the five components plugged into my TV. This thing is great! My DVR, Blu-Ray, kids DVD, VCR and Wii all plug into one unit and ONE cord runs to my LCD TV. I love it!! It also comes with a great iphone dock.

It was easy to set up and it sounds great when it works. But sometimes turns off while watching TV. You have to turn it back on and raise the volume. I may have to return it if the problem continues.

I bought the STR-DH820 for 3D pass through and on screen menu. Ihave the STR-DH810 also a awsome reciever but not 3D, it is 3months old and back in box for a back up. The 820 not only delivered on reason for purchase but exceeded my expectations as well as performance compared to 810. I have a 65" 3D internet apps HDTV, And Sony 3D BD player. I am running HDMI from Charter digital box to 820 as well as BD then to HDTV all connections via 3D HDMI cables. I am running the 7.1 set up with pllx movie on and the sound is awsome as well on analog channels, it gives 7.1 even on them. Sound is better than you will hear at movie theaters as well as picture. I have not encountered any of the problems in other reviews. This is not a plug and play unit it requirers set up with easy to understand menu to customize to your preferances or use mic to set up,or have a pro do it for you. I would have expected to pay twice the price Sony or local store charges for this unit with all the features and customization capabilities.
