I have been looking at large screen TVs for several months. The order of my priorites was large screen (>60"), LED, Smart TV, and 3D. I already have an older 60" Panasonic LCD and wanted something bigger. After comparing LED to plasma in the store, I decided that I did not want a plasma TV for a number of reasons. My eyes just don't agree with all the plasma CNET reviews. I was intrigued by the prospect of 3D, if only for occasional viewing. I really liked the passive 3D demonstration set-up I saw for the LG 55LM6200.. Unbelievable effect of a batter swinging at a baseball in slow motion. Swear that you could reach out and grab the ball. And the passive glasses were very comfortable. But I didn't like the active 3D glasses I tried out on the Sharp 3D demo setup. I could "feel" the blinking of the active shutters and couldn't imagine wearing them for more than a few minutes without getting a headache. As far as I could find, the only large screen passive 3D sets in my budget were the 65" LG 65LM6200 and the 65" Vizio M3D651SV. I wasn't able to get anyone to show me any of the 3D on the Vizio but I liked the set's 2D picture beside the 70" Sharp 70LE640. Most of the reviews I read about the Vizio were very good but no one locally carried the M3D651SV and I really didn't want to order it online and have to deal with shipping it back if I didn't like it in my home. When h.h.gregg had their 10% off sale, I went in and looked at the 65" LG. I don't know if it was just the connection in the store, but I thought the 2D picture was very "soft" and the set didn't appear to have the depth of black levels that many of the other sets had. But I really liked the interactive remote control. I tried out the 2D to 3D up-conversion of a 2D broadcast and wasn't impressed, but the reviews had all but said as much. It really takes a 3D signal for these sets to shine. So I started looking much more critically at the 70" sharp, even though it didn't have 3D. I don't expect to use 3D much but thought it would be good to have since no one knows how much it will catch on. But the immensity of the Sharp's 70" screen and the picture quality in the store sold me. The fact that hhgregg had it on sale pushed me over the edge. When I got the set home, I connected it to my HD box with an HDMI cable and did some critical viewing. I don't know if I just got a good one or something else is going on, but the picture right out of the box in my living room sitting 15' away is much more than I could have expected. The clarity, richness in the colors and the black level all exceed anything I have seen in the store, except the Elite playing a blue-ray movie for some ungodly price. College and pro basketball and football games are amazing. I also like to watch the speed channel. I did not notice any motion blurring of players, basketballs, footballs, racing cars or any other moving object. And last night I watched a Barrett Jackson auto auction of specialty muscle cars. The brilliance of the paint colors and chrome was truly breathtaking. I really felt like the cars were sitting in my living room. If this had been in 3D I probably would have caught myself bidding on the first hemi cuda ever made! If you just have to have 3D, then the Sharp 70LE640 is not for you. But if you want to feel like you are sitting in the stands or "right there" in the show, check out the Sharp 70LE640. Be prepared to be impressed. This one is not going back. And FYI - Sharp offers an additional 3 year warranty for a very reasonable price. Thank you Sharp and thank you h.h.gregg. Life is good.

I purchased this television 10 1/2 months ago and was very happy with it for 3 months. All of a sudden a very large black line, almost side to side, appeared on the screen. After changing channels to confirm it was not the cable, I realized we have a problem. I contacted Sharp support and they wanted photos of the defect. I sent the photos with no response. Again, I sent the photos. No response. And again, nothing. Over and over. I am disgusted with Sharp's customer support. I have read that fixing that line would cost as much as a new television. Once they get your money you are on your own.

Comments about Sharp 70" Full HD 1080p 120Hz AQUOS® LED Smart TV:
Wasn't satisfied with the picture to start with, but decided the problem was with the signal provider and not the TV. After a service call from the dish company the picture was unbelievable. The delivery time was later in the evening than I would have preferred, but the delivery persons were professional and courteous.

I have this mounted on my fire place in my family room. It fits nicely. I thought that a 70" might be too large, but when I put it up it looked great! There is a definate difference between the 52" that I had prior and the 70"!
