Sharp Quattron: Why Yellow Enables More Colors

You may have seen the recent commercials with Star Trek’s Captain Sulu (George Takei) looking at a giant-sized Sharp flat screen with Quattron technology and saying, “WHOA!”

Adding Yellow

Quattron adds Y (yellow) to the RGB (red, green and blue) digital color scheme, which provides for colors never before seen on television, such as sparkling golds, Caribbean blues and sunflower yellows. Quattron technology includes Sharp’s X-Gen panel with a wider aperture, which allows more light to pass through and thus reducing the need for as many backlighting elements to create an extremely bright image. In addition, its LCD panel has fewer ribs than traditional panels, which seals the pixels more completely and results in deeper blacks. With Sharp Quattron, you’ll feel like you’re actually inside your TV.

On top of that, Quattron is also backlit. Quattron’s Mega Contrast provides greater precision to luminance from the backlighting function to provide unprecedented degrees of black to project incredible depth. Backlighting also makes Quattron’s AquoMotion possible. It improves fast-moving images by combining Sharp’s 120 Hz Fine Motion technology with 120-backlight scanning. Fine Motion inserts 60 unique frames per second, which provides crisper images. Backlight scanning works with the panel refresh rate to reduce motion blur, which provides an increased picture quality.

Additional Quattron Features

Quattron’s Quad pixel plus technology means fewer jags in diagonal lines, and its UltraBrilliant LED system includes a double-dome light amplifier lens and multi-fluorescents, enabling high brightness and color purity.
